Complete Family Attendance

Nothing is more important than being a complete family in this special occasion. So make sure to set a specific time that all family members can agree with, and be sure to be at home before the show starts.

In case you will really miss the night, you can join the celebration online via Zoom, Messenger, and any other virtual meeting application.

Grab a Popcorn!

A movie night would not be called a ‘movie night’ if there are no popcorns in the house! Since cinemas are closed because of the global pandemic, popcorns have become a rare food for most of us since we usually find this delicious treat on cinema entrances.

Make sure to prepare a generous amount of popcorns for the movie night as movies are usually an hour or two long and moviegoers don’t want to watch the movie with an empty stomach.

Prepare some drinks

For this special occasion, beers (for occasional drinker dads) should be present for the movie night. Aside from that, you can spice up the night a little bit with some mixed drinks you can prepare.

You may want to try a Soju-Sprite-Yakult Combo drink for a more subtle; more laid back vibe for the movie night.

For minors, you can also prepare a non-alcoholic drink for them such as fruit smoothies, milk tea, or iced coffee as a compliment for the popcorn and other foods!

Customize your Father’s Day cake

Cake has been the centerpiece of every celebration, and Father’s day is no exemption for that. To celebrate the greatness of your dad and as a means of thanking him for being the best father, you may opt to surprise him with a customized cake.

It can be a superhero cake that depicts him being your hero, or it can be a picture of your dad through digitally printed cake, that is very trendy today. Or if you have a bigger budget, you can choose to surprise him with a money cake that has, you got it, money inside which he has to pull from the cake.

Arrange Your “Little Cinema”

Since the pandemic is still a threat in our society today, we must always take precautions and follow the protocol even inside our houses. Social distancing must be observed at all costs, so even in the movie night, seats should be 5-feet away from each other.

Also, all essentials should be available during the movie night: Alcohol, Face Mask, Hand Sanitizer, etc.  Aside from the standard health protocol, set up good audio set for the movie night to have a realistic cinema experience at home.

It would also be nice to prepare a small table in corners where you can place all the foods and drinks you prepared. Lastly, set up a good low-backlight in the cinema room, to have the feels and the vibe of a real-life cinema house.

Prepare the Movie Playlist

This may be the most crucial part of the preparation: the playlist. It is really hard to choose a movie for a “movie night” since each member of the family has their taste and preference of movies.

However, Father’s day is a special day because it’s all about celebrating the fatherhood of every dad in the world. Because of that, you may want to ask your dad first if what movies he would love to watch for that particular night. If he has no suggestions at all, then you may suggest these 12 Netflix Movies for Father’s Day.

Note that some of these movies may not be suitable for minors, so as always, parental guidance is recommended.

Spoiler alert! Some of the descriptions written below might affect your expectations in the movie or may spoil your excitement, so read at your own risk!

12 Netflix Movies to Watch with Dad this Father’s Day

Pursuit of Happyness

Will Smith stars in this heartfelt drama based on the true story of Chris Gardner, a San Francisco salesperson trying to provide for himself and his 5-year-old son Christopher (Jaden Smith). Chris is left to raise Christopher (Jaden Smith) on his own after his fiancée Linda (Thandie Newton) leaves him.

Chris’ perseverance pays off when he is offered an unpaid internship in a brutally competitive stockbroker-training programme, where only one out of every twenty interns is accepted. However, because Chris and his son are not paid, they are evicted from their flat and are forced to sleep on the streets, in homeless shelters, and even behind the closed doors of a metro station lavatory.

With self-confidence and the love and trust of his son, Chris Gardner rises above his obstacles to become a Wall Street legend.

Despicable Me

At the start of Despicable Me, Gru (an international super villain with an untrained pooch, a basement full of heavy artillery, and a small army of minions) doesn’t seem like the ideal father. But by the time the credits roll, it’s clear he’s the perfect father to adopt his three girls. This movie is as funny as it is heartfelt, and should appeal to kids of just about any age.

Cargo

A pandemic is wreaking havoc in the Australian outback in CARGO. The virus, transmitted through a  bite from an afflicted, undead creature who once was human, overtakes its victim in 48 hours, with increasingly horrific physical symptoms. At the end of two days, the prey becomes the predator. Andy (Martin Freeman) has the fate of his very young daughter, Rosie (the heartbreakingly adorable Finlay and Nova Sjoberg), in his hands.

Against long odds, he must find a safe place for her. His odyssey is filled with narrow escapes from characters including Rosie’s stricken mother, the marauding predators, and a crazed and malicious white settler who has his own agenda. His only solace, and perhaps only hope, is a young Aboriginal girl, Thoomi (Simone Landers), who, in an ironic reversal, has been trying to save her suffering father. Fiercely bonding in a mutual desire to save Rosie, Andy and Thoomi face the impossible together.

Like Father

Kristen Bell and Kelsey Grammer? Like Father is bound to be a winner. The story goes like this: a young woman is left at the altar, so rather than waste her vacay, she takes her estranged father on her honeymoon cruise to the Caribbean. It’ll tug your heart strings to watch them get to know each other all over again.

Why Him?

Bryan Cranston and James Franco fight the ultimate battle of wits and wills in this outrageous, no-holds-barred comedy from filmmaker John Hamburg (I Love you Man, Along Came Polly, Meet the Parents, and Zoolander). Ned (Bryan Cranston), an overprotective but loving dad, and his family visit his daughter at college, where he meets his biggest nightmare: her well-meaning but socially awkward Silicon Valley billionaire boyfriend, Laird (James Franco). A rivalry develops, and Ned’s panic level goes through the roof when he finds himself lost in this glamorous high-tech world and learns that Laird is about to pop the question.

The Fundamentals of Caring

A writer (Paul Rudd) retires after a personal tragedy and becomes a disabled teen’s caregiver. When the two embark on an impromptu road trip, their ability to cope is tested as they start to understand the importance of hope and friendship.

The Fundamentals of Caring gets maximum mileage out of the chemistry between its well-matched leads as it follows a fairly well-worn coming-of-age road trip route.

Blood Father

When Lydia gets tied up in a serious crime with her boyfriend and her gang, she escapes and contacts her ex-con dad, played by Mel Gibson, to help her. When the gang finds her at her father’s house, that’s when this father-daughter action flick, Blood Father, really takes off. It winds up involving landmines, car chases, and general bad*ssery, but also some heartfelt moments, too.

Anne with an E

A plucky orphan whose passions run deep finds an unlikely home with a spinster and her soft-spoken bachelor brother.

This is a story of the adventures of a young orphan girl living in the late 19th century. Follow Anne as she learns to navigate her new life on Prince Edward Island, in this new take on L.M. Montgomery’s classic novels.
